Perhaps it all started around age three when I asked my preschool teacher where she thought black holes actually went?
What I really wanted to understand from a very young age was what was out there in space and how it worked. What was it really like inside of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, a giant mega-hurricane on Jupiter’s surface that is made of red clouds and is several times larger than the Earth? What forces were at work to bring together groups of stars into galaxies, spinning spiral discs bigger than we can ever really, truly fathom? And most important to me as I grew into elementary and middle school age, what made up dark matter (invisible matter which exerts gravitational force on surrounding matter but can not be seen and emits no light,) and how was it created? As a childhood member of The Astronomy Book Club and a subscriber to Astronomy Magazine, I strove to find answers to these compelling questions.
I didn’t realize at the time that ten years later in 2000, after a few years of Shamanic and Medicine Training, that I would be able to experience the answers to some of these questions for myself. The goddess Astarte showed me in a vision the Shamanic version of the inner workings of a black hole, and answered the question “Where do black holes go?” I felt like I had come full circle. As I began to understand the way the universe worked on a large scale, it opened the door for me to understand the universe on a tiny scale.
After college, I taught Montessori preschool and gave Shamanic readings and sold art at craft fairs on the weekends. I also spent as much time as I could painting. I painted abstracts and watercolors of animal silhouettes. Some of my abstract paintings kept turning into this little being, kind of like a fairy – but different. Soon I realized she was a real spirit being much like a spirit guide. When I painted her she was there in spirit and I heard the word Deuterium in my mind with my inner ears. Because of her influence I was painting the interacting particles of a substance called Deuterium. But at the time, I had no idea what Deuterium was.
I researched Deuterium. I knew I had heard the word before. I eventually found out it is a component of heavy water, a substance frequently used in chemistry classes for experiments because it is quick to change form and bond with other molecules.
Heavy water is a molecule in which two Hydrogen atoms (the H of H20) have become an isotope. Isotopes have a differing atomic mass than the original, pure form of the element. A pure (not isotope) Hydrogen atom has one proton, and one electron and zero neutrons. Typically the neutron is the more stable part of the atom. It is like the rock at the center of the atom that helps keep the other particles (protons and electrons) anchored and engaged with the atom. Because isotopes have an altered number of neutrons they are the less stable mavericks of the atomic world. Isotopes are the wild-child without a stable center to help keep them solid and together. This makes heavy water an attractive material for a chemistry experiment because it takes little energy to get the Deuterium atoms to exchange particles with other atoms because they are already unstable.
After a few weeks, I had all kinds of paintings of Deuterium. I am clairvoyant and clairaudient, and I started receiving psychic and metaphysical information about Deuterium. Because I had met the Deuterium fairy-like being first, it was easy for me to conceptualize that this molecule was also a conscious being – like a Spirit Guide or Angel. I was drawing Deuterium and the being communicated to me that Deuterium’s essence quality was Fluid Truth.

Soon after that I drew an oil pastel drawing of Boron and received spirit information about him and her origin. Within a month I had painted Potassium, Polonium, and Neon and really started to get to know some of the elements. I kept a notebook of information and recorded tapes of notes from the elements about how they worked, their keynotes and healing effects on people. What eventually became The Atomic Element Healing Oracle had begun. It would be another couple decades before it would be published by Hay House and be all over the world.
Deuterium Whale Medicine
During the months of November through April in Maui humpback whales come to Hawaiian waters where they give birth and mate. They journey from Alaskan waters where they feed in the summer.
The ocean between the islands of Maui, Lanai, and Molokai is a protected marine preserve where it is illegal to approach within 100 yards of any whale in any boat. They are mating and often have very young newborn whales with them. However, if the boat is stopped the whales may choose to approach it.
I was a passenger on a small boat with two other women and a captain. We said a blessing to the whales for their continued health and happiness and hoped they might approach us. We stopped the boat and entered the water. It was not long until a mother and a calf came over to check us out. The first pass they made under water was close enough to see with my snorkel mask floating on the surface. They were checking us out swimming very fast and I only saw them for an instant. To try to describe the deep bliss and contentment I felt even after that brief of an encounter is almost impossible because the feeling was so profound it transcended regular human emotion.
At this point adrenaline was coursing through me as I realized that I, a 5 foot nine inch woman was in the water with an approximately 50 foot cetacean and a cute but still 15-20 foot adolescent whale calf.
When they came back again they were underneath me, and I could really view their bulk from a bit of a distance; I felt myself just fall into the most delicate, embracing relaxation floating on the surface of the Pacific, watching mom and baby swim below. My heart chakra and my whole being were pulsing in the deepest primordial part of me. Later, I viewed the mother whale hanging vertically in the water; her tail was so deep into the blue water below that I couldn’t see it. One of her eyes was almost level with me, as I watched her baby swim and play around her head; I knew everything and nothing all at once. I was pulsing like one giant heart beat.
The calf swam towards me, and when he or she was about 10 feet away he or she made sounds – talking, communicating something I might never be able to put into words. I could feel him or her releasing patterns of energy for me to absorb. These patterns of energy contained information that I continue to access even now. Then the calf dove down. I mimicked him or her and I knew he or she was teaching me how to dive deeply.
I understood that I had taken in an enormous amount of encoded energetic information from the whales on multi dimensional levels. I was physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually integrating that information into my muscles and cellular tissue for quite some time.
That night as I slept, I dreamt with the mother whale. She showed me large pink bubble-spheres, on the bottom of the ocean stretching from Alaska to Hawaii. They contained codes and information about the secrets of the whale song and migration and some of the myths, legends, and magical secrets only the whales know. The mother whale instructed me to swim through the pink bubbles and absorb the information into my dream body.
Then in the dream state I saw maroon bubble-spheres that looked stylized with little squares in the upper right corner of each one, like the iridescent glint of light reflecting off a bubble. They were popping up all around me, surrounding me. I didn’t know what they were. I woke up for a minute.
Then I lay back down and slipped back into a half asleep dreaming state. I imagined a clear plastic box with two gloved hands built into the side; the box was totally sealed. It looked like a baby incubator one might see in a hospital. Inside of the box was one of the maroon bubbles from the dream. In the box, I opened up one of the maroon bubbles by putting my spirit hands into the gloves built into the sides and using my hands to open it. It was like cracking a soft egg using two hands. Clear water poured out and immediately started growing upwards into lush green miniature trees and plants – life. The maroon outer shell of the bubble grew into the underpinning structure that held up the lush, new life. I heard very clearly, “All life grows towards the light.”
The next morning I was profoundly affected by this dream. I felt excited and hopeful. I knew it had something to do with the elements and that the dream was sent to me by the whales. In time, after processing the information internally I had an inner knowing that the clear water substance inside the maroon bubble was heavy water.
Heavy water (D2O) is made up of two Deuterium atoms which are Hydrogen isotopes and one Oxygen atom. When I met Deuterium she communicated to me that her essence is Fluid Truth. In The Atomic Element Healing Oracle Oxygen’s essence is Evolution.
I knew the Oxygen in the heavy water was communicating about the unstoppable force of Evolution and that ultimately everything is Evolving. The Fluid Truth of Evolution is that all life grows towards the light- the light of the sun, the light of the Goddess, the light of Spirit – no matter what course it takes to get there.
Over the years, I continued to develop this relationship with the elements. I learned how to listen to them, how to recognize their individual qualities, and how to work with the messages they offered. Eventually, I began teaching others how to meet the elements in this way through channeling, automatic writing, and shamanic journeying. What began as a deeply personal experience became part of the foundation of my work, and it continues to shape how I understand the relationship between science, spirit, the body, and the living intelligence of the world around us.
Over the years, my work as a medical intuitive taught me to pay attention. I learned to listen carefully, to observe patterns, and to respect the information that arrived through images, sensations, symbols, and inner knowing.
The elements of the periodic table are not merely dry entries in a chemistry textbook. They carry distinct qualities, personalities, and symbolic languages. Hydrogen feels different from iron. Oxygen feels different from gold. Rhenium feels different from calcium.
Of course, these elements have measurable physical properties. They form the material foundation of our bodies and our world. But I also became interested in the deeper question of whether we could relate to them in a more imaginative and intuitive way.
What if an element could be approached as an archetype?
What if we could explore its qualities, its relationships, and the ways its symbolism might illuminate our own lives?
That exploration became The Atomic Element Healing Oracle.
I wanted to create something that brought science and spirit into the same room. I wanted to honor the tangible world while also making space for mystery, intuition, and personal meaning.
The project unfolded slowly. I researched the elements, listened inwardly, worked with imagery, and allowed each card to develop its own atmosphere. I was not trying to make chemistry mystical. I was exploring the possibility that our relationship with the natural world could become more intimate when we approached it with attention.
The elements are everywhere. They are in our bodies, our homes, the food we eat, the ground beneath our feet, and the stars above us. They remind us that we are not separate from nature. We are made of it.
That realization became one of the central threads of my work.
The oracle was not the end of the journey. It was an opening. It gave me a new way to speak about the body, energy, consciousness, and the unseen patterns that shape our experience.
It also led me toward a much larger question.
If the elements could become guides for reflection, could they also become part of a practical intuitive healing method?
That question would eventually lead to the creation of the Atomic Healing® Method.
